We appreciate that you’ve chosen us to provide you with your Tan, whether it’s for an event, a holiday, or just because! We have been tanning at Embellish for over 20 years & are known for our attention to detail for the best possible outcome, and we are here to help ensure you have all the knowledge for best results.
Before Your Tan
For best results exfoliate twice weekly in the lead up to your tan, ensure any old tan is removed & exfoliate well the night before your tan (don’t forget areas such as your armpits and neck). Moisturise your body daily in the week leading up to your tan.
- Nourished & hydrated skin leading up to your tan will ensure the most even, long wearing, seamlessly fading tan. Over exfoliation & dry skin will create undesirable results.
- We have a range of Pure Fiji body products which are rich and deeply nourishing, perfect for prepping the skin for a flawless tan. Our clients absolutely love these and once you use them it’s hard to go back.
When you come in to have your tan done, ensure you have NO body moisturiser & NO deodorant on as this can affect your tan.
AVOID a bath, soaking or a long, hot shower before tanning as your skin retains water and heat opens your pores. A lukewarm short shower is ideal.
Wear loose fitting, dark clothes to your appointment, no leggings or tight clothing as they will absorb the tan.
When you get here your beauty therapist will recommend a tanning solution for your skin tone and desired outcome, as well as how long to leave the tan on, this may range between 2-8 hours. The key is not to overspray here, a light even spray and leaving the tan on longer creates a better outcome and allows the tan to wear off naturally.
After Your Tan
Do not shower or get any of your skin wet for 2-8 hours (or recommended waiting period, your beauty therapist will have advised this) after the spray tanning solution has been applied. This waiting period allows maximum tanning solution absorption.
After the waiting period has passed, a quick shower in lukewarm water (not hot water) for a quick rinse only, and use a light, gentle body wash (with no exfoliant) for necessary parts (underarms & privates), the rest of your body with water only.
The bronzer will run off your body, and when the water is no longer brown, gently pat yourself dry with a towel, do not rub dry!
Don’t fear if after your skin looks light after rinsing, as it will keep developing over a 24hr period.
- Avoid perfumes, deodorants and makeup until after your first shower post tan.
- Avoid skin to skin contact/touching your body while your spray tan is drying off before your first shower post tan. This can create patches and dark brown spots/fingers.
- Avoid sleeping in your tan before washing it off (to avoid sweat marks).
- Avoid moisturising until the following day (to allow the tan to keep developing).
- Avoid lotions or creams on your skin which contain Alpha Hydroxyl Acids (AHA’s) or Glycolic Acid as they tend to exfoliate the skin.
- Avoid exfoliants including beads that can be found in body wash.
- Avoid activities that will make you sweat for 24 hours after the tan – exercising, dancing & sun exposure, anything that will induce sweating, as this will create streaks in the tan.
- Avoid chlorinated swimming pools that easily react with the tanning solution which will strip the tan and cause uneven fading (if you choose to swim, moisturise your body well to create a barrier against chlorine & salt water).
To prolong the life of your tan, use a pH neutral body wash as well as a moisturiser daily to ensure the tan fades evenly.
To keep your tanned skin looking hydrated we recommend using VANI-T Bronzing custard after day 3, to top up your tan to help it look fresh again. This will keep you looking even toned with a beautiful bronzed glow for longer.
We look forward to creating your perfect tan.
Embellish xx
